Product Details:
One word changes everything… for more than twenty centuries, words within a sacred text have mystified, confused, and been misunderstood by almost all who read them. only a very few people through history have realized that the words are a riddle, and that once you solve the riddle–once you uncover the mystery–a new world will appear before your eyes. in the magic, rhonda byrne reveals this life-changing knowledge to the world. then, on an incredible 28-day journey, she teaches you how to apply this knowledge in your everyday life. no matter who you are, no matter where you are, no matter what your current circumstances, the magic is going to change your entire life
Reviews:
I previously read The secret by this same author. The magic is a book that guides you on how to use the secret. The secret is not so much a secret. It is our innate ability to be good individuals and to remind us of the simplicity of being grateful for all that we already have. To thank and bless all that we are surrounded by to enable us to see all the good things instead on focusing on negative thoughts. So far it is a great guide to break habits of negative thoughts that only bring about negative outcomes. It is a must read but read the secret first! I have read the secret about 4 to five times already. The magic i am still reading.nflores4norma
At first glance The Magic might appear to be a short little essay like so many other works on gratitude… but true to its title, this book truly is magic. There a 28 daily practices which if applied have the power to change not just your life but that of everyone you come into contact with. Bold claim? Not IMHO… Pretty much all the most successful people I have ever followed attribute a large part of their success to the practice of gratitude… so if we want more abundance, joy, prosperity and love in our life, being grateful for what we have is the fastest way I've observed to manifest that.. and The Magic shows you how. This might seem odd but it's my go-to business building book!Sandhanissima
I've only scanned through this book as want to do it properly once I've finished a different book but I've heard many recommendations of this book and how it's helped other people.Reviewed by The Book Bundle cust

5. Magic Lessons: Book #1 Of The Practical Magic Series [Book]
Product Details:
In this “ bewitching” (the new york times book review) novel that traces a centuries-old curse to its source, beloved author alice hoffman unveils the story of maria owens, accused of witchcraft in salem, and matriarch of a line of the amazing owens women and men featured in practical magic and the rules of magic.where does the story of the owens bloodline begin? with maria owens, in the 1600s, when she’s abandoned in a snowy field in rural england as a baby. under the care of hannah owens, maria learns about the “nameless arts.” hannah recognizes that maria has a gift and she teaches the girl all she knows. it is here that she learns her first important lesson: always love someone who will love you back. when maria is abandoned by the man who has declared his love for her, she follows him to salem, massachusetts. here she invokes the curse that will haunt her family. and it’s here that she learns the rules of magic and the lesson that she will carry with her for the rest of her life. love is the only thing that matters. magic lessons is a “heartbreaking and heart-healing” (bookpage) celebration of life and love and a showcase of alice hoffman’s masterful storytelling.
Reviews:
"To any man who ever loves an Owens, let this curse befall you, let your fate lead to disaster, let you be broken in body and soul, and may it be that you never recover." Magic Lessons is a prequel in Alice Hoffman's Practical Magic series. The curse that fosters angst in the lives of characters we meet in Practical Magic and The Rules of Magic was spoken from the gallows in Salem in 1686 by their ancestor, Maria Owens. This prequel follows her life from when, as a baby, she was found by Hannah Owens in a snowy field with the crow; taught much of the Unnamed Art into which she was born; watched the women around her betrayed by men who saw evil where there was none; vowed not to deal with love, but taken in anyway, by the father of her daughter, Faith and sent to the gallows by his word. And after that gallows curse, the search for a taken child whose direction takes a turn to the darker arts. And finally, to the building of that house on Magnolia Street, via imprisonment and witch trials and dunkings. As expected, there are herbal recipes, spells and familiars and, of course, that pesky deathwatch beetle, but also good, true, patient men, brave and loyal friends, and love. Fans of the genre and this series will be enchanted, and looking forward to the final volume, The Book of Magic. This unbiased review is from an uncorrected proof copy provided by NetGalley and Simon & Schuster Australia.Cloggie Downunder
"Do as you will, but harm no one. What you give will be returned to you threefold." Colour me bewitched! I say this with the utmost respect: with each Alice Hoffman book I read, I become more convinced that she is proficient in the Nameless Art. If you've ever wondered how the Owens curse came to be, wonder no more. The answer lies in this book. The story of Maria Owens and her daughter, Faith, is one of love, revenge and the fear of powerful women. Any story involving witchcraft in the 1600's, especially one partially set in Salem, is bound to include all manner of horrors perpetrated against women. I prepared myself for the likelihood of witnessing immolations and drownings but I was still surprised at times by the darkness of some of the events that unfolded. I probably needed to brew myself a cup of Courage Tea before settling in. "It was a dangerous world for women, and more dangerous for a woman whose very bloodline would have her do not as she was ordered, but as she pleased." There was so much to love about this book: the bond between mothers and daughters, the importance of keeping the door open to those in need, the power of words and finding the courage to be who you are. While I really liked Maria, it was Faith's journey that really sucked me in. A few times in the first quarter of the book I caught myself thinking that if something could be said in two sentences it was said in five, but over time I got used to the descriptions and backstories. I was left with a few outstanding questions. ""You never told me what happens if someone falls in love with us." "We ruin their lives," Maria told her daughter." Content warnings are included on my blog. Thank you so much to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for the opportunity to read this book. I'm rounding up from 4.5 stars.Schizanthus Nerd
I like that the book gives you the back story to the Owens family beginsTiffany

As with most books made into a movie…the book answers questions and makes the book more enjoyable. So glad I was finally able to read Practical Magic!antiquarianbuyer
They say a movie will ruin a good book. In my case, it was the opposite. I saw the movie many years ago. I just read the book a few months ago. I believe the movie made it better. Don't get me wrong though, it was a good book to read. It just twisted some descriptions of characters and complete downgrade of great moments captured by film.LINDSEY
When I opened the bag the book was shipped in it was like being slapped in the face with second hand smoke! I wiped the book off with a disinfectant wipe and the wipe turned brown. The pages are all yellow and the smell is awful!!guthrtiffa

Reviews:
I really enjoyed this book! Loved the characters, especially Lila the tough street smart girl dreaming of being a pirate The four London's is a cool premise and wish the book didn't power ahead so fast to the end. I would love to spend more time in each and get to know more of their inhabitants. Maybe that will happen in the next book A Gathering of Shadows. can't wait to read it!LAURA
I first reviewed this on my blog. Kell is Antari, one of only two left in the worlds. He can use blood magic to open doors between alternate Londons – Red London, White London and Grey London. He has been raised as a son of the Red London royal family, brother to Rhy, the heir to the throne of Red London. Kell uses his magic to travel between Londons, delivering letters between the monarchs of these alternate cities. However Kell also smuggles items between the cities, something that is not only dangerous but treasonous. At one time there was free movement between the Londons. There was a Black London. But when the magic in Black London posed a threat to those in the alternates the doors between the worlds were sealed and any remnant of Black London destroyed. Now only Antari can traverse the worlds, Kell and the only other Antari, Holland who answers to the cruel monarchs of White London. In magic-less Grey London, there’s a thief, a cross-dressing thief who is desperate for an adventure. Lila sees herself as a Pirate without a ship. She just needs to find a ship so she can leave London and embark upon her long-held dream. When Lila picks the pockets of a stranger she has no idea that this particular crime will lead her on an adventure that will surpass her wildest dreams. She and Kell quickly become partners on a mission to save all of the worlds. Upon finishing this book I marked it 5 stars on Goodreads and pondered upon how to review it. In the end I opted for one word – “BRILLIANT“. I stand by that one word review, I don’t think I can find any other words to do it justice! V.E. Schwab has created a truly brilliant world (or worlds I guess). Her writing is stunning. Her world building is awesome. The first few chapters are very much scene setting, but I could have read a whole book just like that! Schwab created well-rounded characters that I really cared about; not just Kell and Lila but Rhy too. The dynamic between Kell and Lila, and the building of their relationship is really interesting to watch. The relationship between Kell and Rhy is clearly a special one, which only enhances how much I care about these two characters. I loved the ideas in this book. Loved the way Schwab conveyed them. I loved the action, the magic, the danger and the coat with multiple sides. I loved, loved, loved it all!!rhoda.k
This review was first published on Kurt's Frontier. Synopsis: Kell lives as one of the last two Antari. Antari are magicians able to travel between specific points in parallel worlds. This point is London, of which there are three: Red, Grey, and White. Once there was a Black London which no one speaks of now, save in whispers. Kell's home is in Red London, called Arnes by the locals of this world. Kell serves as ambassador between the Londons, traveling to White London with constant bloody regime changes and Grey London which exists without magic. Kell also smuggles little trinkets between the worlds. When an exchange goes wrong, Kell escapes to Grey London and gets robbed by Delilah Bard, who then saves him from a deadly enemy. Kell takes her to Red London where dangerous magic and treachery lurk at every turn. Review: I usually don't pick up alternative world stories as they tend to be confusing. I almost didn't pick it up. I'm glad I did. The worlds were different enough that I could keep track of which was which. V. E. Schwab uses elemental-based magic, a good grounding point for magical systems. The interplay between the characters proved to be fun. Kell is a magician who can walk between worlds with the dangerous and highly illegal hobby of smuggling. When he unwittingly smuggles a magical object from Black London, events are set in motion that leads him to Delilah Bard, a Grey London pickpocket who wants a proper adventure. What followed kept me turning the pages. I already picked up the two sequels in the series.ksprings

This may be the best book written to date solely dedicated to the attempt to describe the loss of a spouse or other person with whom you experience true intimacy. Joan has expressed in words many of the experiences I have had since my Help Meet died 21 months ago. I wouldve written a book with many of Joans experiences if I werent destroyed by Grief in my first Year of Magical Thinking. Dont be mislead by the books title: Joan has a wicked and satirical sense of humor. You may read other reviews less positive than mine and that is OK. One reviewer was unhappy with Joan because her life has been one of privilege. Joan will express some experiences in the light of the life she has lived. Try to understand her feelings: indescribable pain with love and joy. A recommended read for any thinking human being.bubbles37-half
Got this as a Christmas present from my mom. I watched a documentary about her on Netflix and was really interested in her life and the way her mind works. Excited to read this because I love her other works.BRANDI
This book was recommended to me by a psychologist after my own recent bereavement. It is beautifully written as an account of the author's experience during the year after her own bereavement. I would however be selective about recommending it to others as the circumstances of the death described in the book can be quite different to the reader's personal experience and therefore change the way the book can help or impact the reader.Cate
