1. Taltos: Lives Of The Mayfair Witches [Book]

Product Details:
Meet mr. ash, quiet-spoken, tall, unfailingly kind – sole survivor of an ancient species, the taltos – thriving among humankind as he has always done, now the head of a great corporate empire. as the novel opens, he is stunned to learn from an old and mysterious friend that another taltos has been seen – in the very same scottish glen where centuries ago, long before the coming of the romans, ash ruled his clan. at once he is propelled into the world of rowan mayfair, and into the mysteries of the mayfair family – the new orleans dynasty of witches forever besieged by ghosts, spirits, and the dizzying powers of his own species – a family intimately involved with the heritage of the taltos, a family of unique, brilliant, and troubled souls struggling as they have for centuries to use both science and magic in their battle for greatness, even survival. at the heart of the novel is the talamasca, a secular order of psychic scholars, the only organization in existence which may understand ash, his taltos past, and the dilemma of the mayfair witches. the story of the mayfair family continues, moving from london to donnelaith, scotland, to new orleans, back and forth through time – from the origins of the taltos and their mythic lost land to the moral crises of the present day.

3. The Very Secret Society Of Irregular Witches [Book]

Product Details:
A warm and uplifting novel about an isolated witch whose opportunity to embrace a quirky new family—and a new love—changes the course of her life. as one of the few witches in britain, mika moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. and as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules…with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. she thinks no one will take it seriously. but someone does. an unexpected message arrives, begging her to travel to the remote and mysterious nowhere house to teach three young witches how to control their magic. it breaks all of the rules, but mika goes anyway, and is immediately tangled up in the lives and secrets of not only her three charges, but also an absent archaeologist, a retired actor, two long-suffering caretakers, and…jamie. the handsome and prickly librarian of nowhere house would do anything to protect the children, and as far as he’s concerned, a stranger like mika is a threat. an irritatingly appealing threat. as mika begins to find her place at nowhere house, the thought of belonging somewhere begins to feel like a real possibility. but magic isn't the only danger in the world, and when peril comes knocking at their door, mika will need to decide whether to risk everything to protect a found family she didn’t know she was looking for….
Reviews:
The Very Secret Society Of Irregular Witches is the second stand-alone novel by British author, Sangu Mandanna. At the latest meeting of the group that Mika Moon likes to call The Very Secret Society of Witches, the rules of remaining apart (Alone is how we survive) and the reasoning behind them (Too much magic left unchecked in one place would draw attention, which could be dangerous) are reiterated, and Mika is again criticised by the oldest, most powerful and persuasive witch, Primrose Everly, for her witchy social media videos. Mika is undeterred: no one could ever believe from her videos that she's really a witch! The email she receives, not much later, has her thinking twice about that: "WITCH WANTED. Live in tutor wanted for three young witches. Must have nerves of steel. Previous teaching experience not necessary. Witchiness essential." Surely a hoax? But she's recently jobless and her flat lease nearly up, and a single word in the email exchange has her driving from Brighton to Norfolk to check it out. Mika meets her prospective employers: a housekeeper, a librarian, a gardener, and a retired actor, if not Lillian Nowhere, the absent archaeologist, witch, owner of Nowhere House and the legal guardian of three young witches. Most are very welcoming. The job, genuine, it turns out, is to tutor three young witches in magic, to help them gain control over their powers. Mika is amazed that this little enclave of witches has gone unnoticed by the imperious and inflexible Primrose but Nowhere House does have some powerful wards protecting it from detection. And this quirky foursome clearly loves and cares deeply about their charges. Mika is not at all sure she can do this job: she has no experience with teaching children. There's also the urgency: Edward Foxhaven, Lillian's solicitor is due to arrive in weeks on a legal errand, and this meticulous man, who detests Lillian's employees, is likely to seize on any excuse to have them evicted; an outbreak of uncontrolled magic would easily fit the bill. And then there's Jamie Kelly, the devastatingly handsome but scowly, cold and unreachable librarian who definitely doesn't want her there. But Mika recalls the crippling loneliness of her own childhood, raised by a parade of nannies in a house in York and learning to control her own magic by trial and error: she can't condemn these young girls to that. After just a few weeks at Nowhere House, Mika realises she is feeling so needed, so comfortable, that she is in danger of forgetting her lifelong promise to herself: don't get attached. Could she take a risk? What a charming story Mandanna gives the reader! The plot is clever, the characters are appealing and she subtly and seamlessly inserts the properties and rules governing the fantasy elements into the narrative. All the requirements of an entertaining and enjoyable fantasy novel: quirky characters, magic, romance and a dog, are comprehensively met. The added bonus is plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and a few to bring a lump to the throat. Sensitive readers should be aware that there is a bit of sex and some characters do use expletives, but Mandanna also gives them wise words and insightful observations: "Niceness is all about what we do when other people are looking. Kindness, on the other hand, runs deep. Kindness is what happens when no one's looking" and "when someone leaves, all you can do is leave a window open for them so that one day, if they choose, they can come back." More of this cast would be most welcome! Highly recommended. This unbiased review is from an uncorrected proof copy provided by NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton.Cloggie Downunder
This is a wonderful story that I could not put down.Sarah

Reviews:
This is the most pathetic excuse for a book on witchcraft. Makes a mockery of Witchcraft. 90% of it is nonesense and the other 10% is not good enough to save it. If you just want a book that looks good as a decoration, great. But if you want something useful, don't waste your money on this garbage!Real Witch.
I HIGHLY do not recommend this book to any baby witch or anyone who wants to start witchcraft, Anastasia Greywolf's work is ripe with inappropriate cultural representation, from using charms from strictly closed practices to getting thing completely wrong with its Celtic works. Even using a somewhat slur during the entire book to describe Romanian culture! this book is terrible and I regret spending my money on it. The illustrations were nice though 🙂Emma

Reviews:
Considering picking up this book? Let me persuade you against it. I picked up a copy of this from my local book shop and to put it simply, it's basically just garbage. The author seems to have very minimal understanding of magic practice and absolutely no credibility. Don't believe me? Dip over to her social media and you'll see. Just another youngster who found magic and got carried away, thinking they are some kind of authority. Very surprised this has the Weiser name on it. Looks like they'll publish about anything these days, sad to see it.JM699
I was really looking forward to this book but it's not suitable, it is written for the northern hemisphere. She has a small – one page on the Southern Hemisphere, which is written from her perspective in the NH. It's for very very beginner book for witches. There are better books for beginners. Very detail oriented. I love it.Crystal
At first glance, it seemed like a beginner's book. After reading it cover to cover I realized that the author is amazing at making extremely complicated subjects surprisingly simple and easy to understand. As a practicing Witch for 17 years, I have to say that I learned more going over the "core practices" in this almanac than I have from the last dozen books I've bought. Fun, beautiful, light-hearted and serious all at the same time.witchescounsil

Reviews:
This is the first book in a series that deals with an alternative universe whose structure is very Scottish pagan and is very sword sorcery with some notable twists. In the beginning the witches in this tale have been/are being persecuted and trying to get the peasants to revolt against the evil queen who has come in from nowhere marrying the monarch of the land. Her first steps were to go after all witches and supernaturals even though she is both and uses the ones she wants to help her. It's a good read and unfortunately I'd actually started 6 books into the series in the Rhiannon trilogy. I like the author and her books. The series has been touted as a must read for Pagans and Wiccans in particular but feel for it's gender would be well suited for anyone.rosegoldwitch
This is an old edition of a brilliant book (retitled Dragonclaw). This fantasy series is set in a celtic world full of magic and magical creatures, that have been outlawed. It follows a young girl named Isabeau and tells the story of her and all of the people that she meets in her quest to free the world from an evil Queen. Told from many different characters it is utterly enthralling – I read the entire six book series in a week, and they are all about 400 pages long. Anybody who is a fan of fantasy will love this book.

Witches, Midwives and Nurses: A History of Women Healers was a good read for me. Working with pregnancy and childbirth off and on for 30 years, I find it amazing how natural childbirth became a mystery and a folk-tail. In the pamphlet / book you see the history of women healers and women health workers as they cure, treated, and care for people and how money and power work to take over healthcare system and in it's path the art of natural childbirth is being lost and forgotten. This is a very informative book. It has a good bit of information about crystals, herbs and plants. The moon cycles, spells et cetera. It is a very good companion book to many other books I have in my collection of new age, crystal healing, nature homeopathy, and the like. If you're into this kind of stuff, it's pretty good to have in the arsenal of books to study and have on hand.Aferguson1413
If you love astrology, plants, and spiritual practices then this is for you! Full disclosure, I’ve not finished this yet. However, this is right up my alley and I am enjoying it so far. I wish it was a hardback book but I just have a preference with books. I’m trying to learn herbal medicine and more about the properties of herbs and plants that most Americans aren’t educated on. Definitely recommend!ERDreviews
This book is creatively written and wonderfully laid out. Part one of the book explains what Green Witchcraft and how witchcraft is growing. This book goes into the history of green witchcraft and ways to communicate with nature. This book goes from herbs and greens that can be blended into incenses and gardening tip of plants and moon phases. This isn’t something I would have typically picked up but it’s interesting and intriguingly well written.JessicaP

Somehow I never heard of A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness until a friend recommended it to me recently. I dont read a lot of fantasy or paranormal literature as a rule. I enjoyed it a lot because it has all the ingredients I look for: interesting, well-developed characters, a bit of humor, mystery, a twisty plot, and great settings (I would so like to visit the Bodleian Library). It also has something Ive never previously encountered in a novel: characters speaking Old French or Occitan. Perfect for those who enjoy vampires and the paranormal (and even for those of us who don't read many vampire stories).bastimret
I'm really enjoying this book. I saw the series on tv and liked it so i decided to read the first book. This goes into so much more details of each person background that they can only show you so much on tv. Matthew and Diana are my new favorite couple to love. CAn't wait to read the next book and watch season 2.YOLANDA
I had made an abortive attempt to watch the TV adaptation of this trilogy without first reading the books, but someone loaned me the first – Discover of Witches – and I was hooked by the end of the first twenty pages. The novel is rich with detail – of history, metaphysics, and places – and the characters manage to be both exotic and believable: no small feat when writing about witches, vampires, and demons. As an historian, I am attracted to stories that bring the past to life, but only if the depiction is authentic and then only if it is also entertaining. Harkness does not disappoint.pookettemaureen

audiobook, audiobook-blast, witches, suspense, amateur-sleuth, murder-investigation, situational-humor, verbal-humor, law-enforcement The rest of the family witches are batty, but Cen mostly has her head on straight, except where her self-involved old-friend-turned-politician/fiance and the new sheriff are concerned. The cozy mystery is excellent and the verbal and situational humor is nonstop. The publisher's blurb gives hints, and there is no need for spoilers or a recap. So stay away from hot beverages to avoid the coffee snurfles and escape to Westwick Corners!jT
