Reviews:
This is easily the most important book I've ever read. Our culture's explanation of emotions is so dysfunctional as to be actively harmful; this book explains the life-enhancing, protective information contained in any emotion and how to make use of input from our emotions to grow and deepen instead of merely using emotions to feel confused and miserable as we were taught.coyotefrog
Im a time of deep personal enquiry this book is extraordinarily clear. Taking an approach which I have not encountered before. Direct, evocative with clear instruction so as not to loose your way. The author is deeply wise both in knowledge (psychology, neuroscience) and experience. A safe pair of hands to examine, explore and engage with emotions, so often denigrated or suppressed, as one of our key survival/thrive intelligences. If it resonates and you have the money, buy it (or loan from your local library!) you wont regret it.leec-jan
My sister recommended this book as it explains a lot about emotions and empathy I have read about how to improve my ability of expressing my emotions in a way that will give us the ability to use our emotions and why.luckylkn

I found this book to be really helpful. It provides useful advice for dealing with anger, and it also places a strong emphasis on forgiveness as a way of becoming less angry as well. The photos are helpful in assisting children to read social cues from othersAnonymous
I bought this book for my 2 year old granddaughter and also for my work in early intervention. The photographs are excellent and such a nice size. It's perfect for building vocabulary. On our long trip during the holidays my granddaughter choose this book more often than her other new books. We added her own personal experiences with the feeling when reading the book.Clare
My son loved this book so much we had to buy a second one after the first one became so worn out from use! It has fantastic photos that show feelings that young children CAN relate to, including special needs children (like my son who has Down syndrome)! I disagree with mammon's two-star review "feelings portrayed are not very clear and are ambiguous." The feelings portrayed WERE very clear, to me, to my special needs son, and to the kids in my Montessori class… I can't say enough good things about this book! The best part?! Reading it outloud! My son could not get enough of my reading it to him (very dramatically of course)! And it was a joy for me (unlike some other kids books)! I highly recommend it for ages 2 to 5, special needs, and second-language learners! ~Lisa Nolan, 3 to 6 and 6 to 9 Montessori trained teacherLisa

I've found the quality of my life has enhanced a great deal as a result of reading and applying these teachings. I'm writing this review as we continue sliding into an ever deepening recession, exacerbated but not wholly caused, by Covid 19. This book will help you develop the confidence to follow your own internal guidance system rather than the dictates of others. Valuable insights are to be gained from this book.emmabcstar1

Rather typical. You need to rewrite the affirmations to fit you better that suggested. A bit outdated but ok.lotadeals77

Interesting read, good reference base and food for thought.sket.sandr
Pages upon pages of personal stories that seem to go nowhere, or lead to what most of us already knew. Filling up hundreds of pages of repetitive nonsense when this book could have been written in less than 50 pages. No new or mind-blowing revelations here that will rock your understanding or presuppositions, the only emotion I felt reading this book was an absolute betrayal that I was robbed of good money in buying it.Mike
it was a bit hard for me to read – but well worth it – very interesting take on how we process our reality – helpful in understanding a depressed mind – should be required reading for all adults!dragonmydog
