3.5/5 Stars 2/5 Steam Rating Alternating Timeline After hearing all of the rave reviews this summer, I had expected a little bit more from this story. To me, this book read a lot more like Women’s Fiction than a true romance. The author had her work cut out for her, she had to cover six years worth of feelings within 320pgs. Did I go to like the characters? Yes. Did I FEEL the love they had for each other? No, not really. I just wanted to feel the connection they shared and get lost in those feelings with them, unfortunately there was just so much of those six years left untold. With all that said, it was a decent story. I can definitely see this read as a light “beach read”.Rhi
I absolutely loved this book! It’s cute, it’s intriguing, you will not want to put the book down. I’m someone who usually reads a book over a few months but I finished this book in one week! I’m so sad it’s over and hope the author is writing again!kennie
I literally could not put this book down, I read it in under 24 hours! In love with this story and these characters. It instantly became a favorite.melbizzle

Reviews:
I have just ordered two more copies, after only reading the intro.—and Prof. Peterson's numerous interviews simply expand my own heart. In this climate of high anxiety and appalling lack of compassion, echoed by Hugh MacKay in AUSTRALIA REIMAGINED. It is no wonder that he has an enthralled audience of millions, world- wide. My wish is that Prof. Peterson will produce a primer affirming our children and youth, to give them hope— for our learning young to master before they get to our Uni's. that have to do their own serious reflecting. In my opinion. AND to give our valiant teachers stronger morale and endurance—as so vividly depicted in Gabbie Stroud's TEACHER, also published last year. Finally, the more I devour of the Prof.'s 'Rules' the more I want to yell my rental's roof off , in agreement—our kids CAN be brought up in a far better world, if we follow Jordan's example of such raw courage and exemplary scholarship and teaching. I only wish that I could buy another 12 copies to share around !KCKLL
This is the third book I purchase as a gift. Jordan Peterson tells it as it is in how one should behave to be a functional human being in society. This is sadly supposed to be the role of parents but not many parents nurture their kids anymore by teaching them the basic life skills. I've seen so many young people can't keep their own room organised yet trying to solve the world's most complex problem. Let's keep it to basic – stand up straight, make yourself better than who you are yesterday and clean up your room before you try to solve any life's complex problem. You will be more content and happier in life and no longer feeling depressed all the time. Great for both men, women and anyone. I'm a woman who loves this book. This book has changed my life!!This book changes my life
An excellent book written with great depth and understanding about living a life. It is necessary to read at least twice to get a more complete picture of what Peterson is on about. Best of all this book made me think deeply about living a life and the ultimate ending of that life. Highly recommended but only to serious readers and certainly not for shallow thinking people.Bob

Reviews:
A incredibly powerful memoir about how a young daughter of a large isolationist, religious family that views government hospitals and schools with great suspicion grows up and through a series of decisions becomes a Harvard and Cambridge educated scholar. This story provides the space to contemplate some difficult but highly relevant topics such as self identity vs family ties, ones childhood memories vs memories of others you grew up with, loving ones family even when one's been ostracized. While some of the childhood stories are dark in nature and even frightening at times, it's also really funny at many points. Overall, just an incredibly powerful story that touches on self identity, self preservation, growing past very difficult childhood challenges, learning to deal with dysfunctional families, and ultimately about being true to ones self.jbtwarehouse
Difficult to read. Impossible to put down. A powerful, powerful book that you shouldn’t miss. I can’t just leave it at that because Tara Westover’s story deserves more than those few words. I don’t often read memoirs, but when I do I want them to be told by extraordinary people who have a meaningful story to tell and that would be faint praise for this book. It sounds odd to say how beautifully written this is because we are not spared of the ugly details of what this family was about, but yet it is beautifully written. I had to remind myself at times that I wasn’t reading a gritty novel, that Tara and her family were real as I got more than just a glimpse of a life that was hard for me to even imagine.prem.p
I have mixed feelings about this book. It was a difficult read, and for numerous reasons, the first being Tara's childhood. It's very difficult to imagine her life when I have no reference point, having had a "normal" childhood. She has no reference point to compare to her traumatic childhood, thus bringing her to spontaneously go back to her childhood home periodically, with the hope that things would change for the better. Her quest for knowledge outweighed her fears of failure, although failure was always a component in her mind. Her strength overcame her weaknesses, which is an amazing attainment! I must commend her for her continued drive to survive her past, and become a hero for others to admire and respect. Take the time to read this eye-opening memoir!Nancee

Reviews:
I feel like this is just a book you need to have on hand. It was required reading for my youngest sister, but not for me (it hadn’t been out long when I was in HS). I’m happy I finally got around to reading it. I was engaged in the story and definitely wanted to know what was coming next. I can see this being most beneficial to young adults who are figuring out life’s next steps. But, it’s also got a nostalgic sense about it for middle aged adults (myself) as well.Tattooedbluebird
It’s a good read. Love it. I read it before but I wanted to read it again and have it in my bookshelf. The cover is a paper cover that moves around sometimes it might bug people. You can remove it and it’s a hard blue book underneath. It doesn’t bother me. I like it. I will buy more to give out as gifts.Kiki

6. Broken Horses: A Memoir [Book]
Product Details:
#1 new york times bestseller – the critically acclaimed singer-songwriter, producer, and six-time grammy winner opens up about faith, sexuality, parenthood, and a life shaped by music in “one of the great memoirs of our time” (glennon doyle, author of untamed). named one of the best books of the year by npr and autostraddle – “the best-written, most engaging rock autobiography since her childhood hero, elton john, published me.”—varietybrandi carlile was born into a musically gifted, impoverished family on the outskirts of seattle and grew up in a constant state of change, moving from house to house, trailer to trailer, fourteen times in as many years. though imperfect in every way, her dysfunctional childhood was as beautiful as it was strange, and as nurturing as it was difficult. at the age of five, brandi contracted bacterial meningitis, which almost took her life, leaving an indelible mark on her formative years and altering her journey into young adulthood.as an openly gay teenager, brandi grappled with the tension between her sexuality and her faith when her pastor publicly refused to baptize her on the day of the ceremony. shockingly, her small town rallied around brandi in support and set her on a path to salvation where the rest of the misfits and rejects find it: through twisted, joyful, weird, and wonderful music. in broken horses, brandi carlile takes readers through the events of her life that shaped her very raw art—from her start at a local singing competition where she performed elton john’s “honky cat” in a bedazzled white polyester suit, to her first break opening for dave matthews band, to many sleepless tours over fifteen years and six studio albums, all while raising two children with her wife, catherine shepherd. this hard-won success led her to collaborations with personal heroes like elton john, dolly parton, mavis staples, pearl jam, tanya tucker, and joni mitchell, as well as her peers in the supergroup the highwomen, and ultimately to the grammy stage, where she converted millions of viewers into instant fans.evocative and piercingly honest, broken horses is at once an examination of faith through the eyes of a person rejected by the church’s basic tenets and a meditation on the moments and lyrics that have shaped the life of a creative mind, a brilliant artist, and a genuine empath on a mission to give back.

7. Once And For All [Book]
Product Details:
Beloved author sarah dessen's latest novel set in the exciting and romantic world of wedding planning is now in paperback. a #1 new york times bestseller.is it really better to have loved and lost? louna's summer job is to help brides plan their perfect day, even though she stopped believing in happily-ever-after when her first love ended tragically. but charming girl-magnet ambrose isn't about to be discouraged now that he's met the one he really wants. maybe louna's second chance is standing right in front of her. sarah dessen’s many fans will adore this latest novel, a richly satisfying, enormously entertaining story with humor, romance, and an ending that is so much more than happily-ever-after.
Reviews:
I loved Louna's romantic relationship with Ethan and her evolving relationship with Ambrose. These three characters and (discovering if) my hopes for their futures were the only things that made me continue reading the story. Although the plot to the story wasn't enjoyed by myself, I think many others would like it. My favourite part of the storyline was the ending, not because the story ended but it was what I hoped for and envisioned.S.E.N
A little slow at first, didn't see the Sarah Dessen spark, but I tell you what: She HITS you with it there at the end. Another complete hit.Court
I LOVE Sarah Dessen. I will read whatever she comes out with no matter how old I am. What I really love about her books is I am immediately taken back to 16 with every one. I thought this was a perfect summer read and very relevant to today's culture. I don't really understand why no one really liked this book, I think it is one of my favorites. Also let's talk about the names in this book because they are kind of strange Louna, Ambrose, Jilly, Michael Salem??? However, I did feel toward the end the book was dragging on. You already knew what was going to happen and were literally just waiting for Louna to stop being such a baby, but I understand. All in all, I really did like this book and I will continue reading Sarah Dessen even as a twenty-something female.brittany.r

New york times bestseller – an npr pick for best books of 2018an o, the oprah magazine's best book of 2018a san francisco chronicle best book of 2018one of christian science monitor's best fiction reads of 2018 one of newsweek's best books of the year – the new york times bestselling author of flight behavior, the lacuna, and the poisonwood bible and recipient of numerous literary awards—including the national humanities medal, the dayton literary peace prize, and the orange prize—returns with a timely novel that interweaves past and present to explore the human capacity for resiliency and compassion in times of great upheaval. – how could two hardworking people do everything right in life, a woman asks, and end up destitute? willa knox and her husband followed all the rules as responsible parents and professionals, and have nothing to show for it but debts and an inherited brick house that is falling apart. the magazine where willa worked has folded; the college where her husband had tenure has closed. their dubious shelter is also the only option for a disabled father-in-law and an exasperating, free-spirited daughter. when the family’s one success story, an ivy-educated son, is uprooted by tragedy he seems likely to join them, with dark complications of his own. – in another time, a troubled husband and public servant asks, how can a man tell the truth, and be reviled for it? a science teacher with a passion for honest investigation, thatcher greenwood finds himself under siege: his employer forbids him to speak of the exciting work just published by charles darwin. his young bride and social-climbing mother-in-law bristle at the risk of scandal, and dismiss his worries that their elegant house is unsound. in a village ostensibly founded as a benevolent utopia, thatcher wants only to honor his duties, but his friendships with a woman scientist and a renegade newspaper editor threaten to draw him into a vendetta with the town’s powerful men. – unsheltered is the compulsively readable story of two families, in two centuries, who live at the corner of sixth and plum in vineland, new jersey, navigating what seems to be the end of the world as they know it. with history as their tantalizing canvas, these characters paint a startlingly relevant portrait of life in precarious times when the foundations of the past have failed to prepare us for the future.
Reviews:
Fascinating subject matter completely apropos to the issues today. Effective writing style, full of suspense and despite the subject matter often humorous. Really interesting characters. Incredible parallels between the 1870's and today. Just a wonderful book easy to get immersed in.juma845604
This is another excellent novel by Barbara Kingsolver using some little known history of Mary Treat a 19th C biologist and Charles Landis who established Vinelands. The story moves seamlessly between 19th and 21st C charactersElizabeth S.
This is an awesome book that portrays how it feels to be homeless. It is written with great sympathy and empathy and makes one understand how lucky we are if we have a front door to walk through. Written well with great depth and perception by a master storyteller. Highly recommended.evelyn3638

Reviews:
Very interesting true story of just how evil people can be!!! Chilling tale of a mothers hate and a mental health disorder!! Really sadelch-bud-wkxt147r
I finished the book two weeks ago but I is still with me. Unbelievable that there are such evil people in this world. The author did an excellent job of taking the reader inside the minds of these victims.Doris
This book was consistent the whole way through. It took a lot to repeatedly read about the abuse that was happening but it never fully pulled me in until the last chapter. I expected this to be more of a page turner so I was pretty disappointed.tara.f
12. Love On The Brain [Book]
Product Details:
An instant new york times bestsellera #1 libraryreads and indie next pick! from the new york times bestselling author of the love hypothesis comes a new steminist rom-com in which a scientist is forced to work on a project with her nemesis—with explosive results.like an avenging, purple-haired jedi bringing balance to the mansplained universe, bee königswasser lives by a simple code: what would marie curie do? if nasa offered her the lead on a neuroengineering project—a literal dream come true after years scraping by on the crumbs of academia—marie would accept without hesitation. duh. but the mother of modern physics never had to co-lead with levi ward. sure, levi is attractive in a tall, dark, and piercing-eyes kind of way. and sure, he caught her in his powerfully corded arms like a romance novel hero when she accidentally damseled in distress on her first day in the lab. but levi made his feelings toward bee very clear in grad school—archenemies work best employed in their own galaxies far, far away. now, her equipment is missing, the staff is ignoring her, and bee finds her floundering career in somewhat of a pickle. perhaps it’s her occipital cortex playing tricks on her, but bee could swear she can see levi softening into an ally, backing her plays, seconding her ideas…devouring her with those eyes. and the possibilities have all her neurons firing. but when it comes time to actually make a move and put her heart on the line, there’s only one question that matters: what will bee königswasser do?
Reviews:
I did like it. It doesn’t compare to the love hypothesis but I did enjoy it. Definitely a lot spicier in the love scenes. Is it my ultimate favorite? No but it was a good read.Mimi
Can I give is 0 stars? Love Hypothesis is the ONLY reason this book has any sort of HYPE. This book and characters are terrible. Its like the book has an agenda made by the author… MC is absolutely unlikable, feminist liberal with a nasty attitude and woe is me personality. Which absolutely insults and overshadows actual women in the real world, whose profession hold much respect for their intelligence in the fields this MC is. THIS BOOK IS GARBAGE. Just skip it. This author may be a ONE HIT WONDER. Like many Pandemic writers. Fingers crossed we get another enjoyable book like Love Hypothesis. I ended up returning this, couldn’t even finish a few chapters in.Literary Sassy Lassy
I didn't love this one nearly as much as her first book, The Love Hypothesis, but it was still a cute and enjoyable read. The end was a bit dramatic (and somehow also predictable?) for me, though.HabbinJabbins

Reviews:
This is not a Leaphorn and Chee Novel. It is some different theme that does not interest me in the least. Misreprentation of the whole thing. I am mailing it back.Sherryl
An incredible thriller with themes of racism and gentrification that had me absolutely addicted! Alyssa Cole's writing kept me hooked throughout, and I finished this in one night because I just had to know what was going to happen next. I'm fairly new to the thriller genre, but this is definitely one of my new favorites!Queenkitty

Reviews:
You was interesting and highly engrossing from the very beginning. I enjoyed that the story is from 2nd narration. The story is a little bit creepy, but not too creepy. It does feature lots of stalking, violence, and murder, just so people are aware before starting the book.Peppermint1991
This was definitely very different than what I have ever read before. Creepy. Odd. Messes up with your mind but addicting. This book is not for everyone. *Note: I read this way before the TV series came out. Still haven't watched it yet.I am so conflicted in whether I like or hate Joe Goldberg. He is a creepy, smart, psychotic stalker. I should dislike him for that but sometimes I don't. He is a hopeless romantic that needs help. But I don't think any help will actually help him. He knows what he is doing therefore none of his actions are acceptable. Joe meets Guinevere Beck at the bookstore he works at and is instantly obsessed. He will do anything for her, and he does. Every other character in this book isn't any better than him in a way. Yes they don't stalk and hurt people but their actions and personality aren't the greatest either. This book is a crazy read. It will make you so conflicted because you will hate yourself for liking this guy.tiffany.l
Received a copy of this novel as an advanced reader edition in my store a month or two before the release date. While I lay hands on nearly every new release of the year, this one immediately caught my attention and I took it home to read. I found the use of the 2nd person pov a refreshing perspective and was instantly caught up in a love affair with the narrator – his keen wit, unconventional viewpoints and social awkwardness were very endearing. A little into the novel, I started thinking "This guy might be a little creepy." A little further, I started thinking, "Yeah…this guy is kinda creepy.". A little further, and I realize, "Yes. Yes, this guy is definitely a creeper," but yet I'm still somewhat enthralled. His actions and conclusions seem so normal and such a matter-of-course to him, it's very easy to sympathize and see him as the victim rather than the victimizer. I sometimes hesitate to recommend this book to customers as it's so incredibly creepy, but if you are a mature reader with a love for psychological thrillers, this book is an absolute must read!Lisa, GM
15. Caste (Oprah's Book Club): The Origins Of Our Discontents [Book]
Product Details:
#1 new york times bestseller – oprah’s book club pick – “an instant american classic and almost certainly the keynote nonfiction book of the american century thus far.”—dwight garner, the new york times – the pulitzer prize–winning, bestselling author of the warmth of other suns examines the unspoken caste system that has shaped america and shows how our lives today are still defined by a hierarchy of human divisions. – named the #1 nonfiction book of the year by time, one of the ten best books of the year by people – the washington post – publishers weekly and one of the best books of the year by the new york times book review – o: the oprah magazine – npr – bloomberg – christian science monitor – new york post – the new york public library – fortune – smithsonian magazine – marie claire – town & country – slate – library journal – kirkus reviews – library the hierarchy of caste is not about feelings or morality. it is about power—which groups have it and which do not.” in this brilliant book, isabel wilkerson gives us a masterful portrait of an unseen phenomenon in america as she explores, through an immersive, deeply researched narrative and stories about real people, how america today and throughout its history has been shaped by a hidden caste system, a rigid hierarchy of human rankings. beyond race, class, or other factors, there is a powerful caste system that influences people’s lives and behavior and the nation’s fate. linking the caste systems of america, india, and nazi germany, wilkerson explores eight pillars that underlie caste systems across civilizations, including divine will, bloodlines, stigma, and more. using riveting stories about people—including martin luther king, jr., baseball’s satchel paige, a single father and his toddler son, wilkerson herself, and many others—she shows the ways that the insidious undertow of caste is experienced every day. she documents how the nazis studied the racial systems in america to plan their outcasting of the jews; she discusses why the cruel logic of caste requires that there be a bottom rung for those in the middle to measure themselves against; she writes about the surprising health costs of caste, in depression and life expectancy, and the effects of this hierarchy on our culture and politics. finally, she points forward to ways america can move beyond the artificial and destructive separations of human divisions, toward hope in our common humanity. – beautifully written, original, and revealing, caste: the origins of our discontents is an eye-opening story of people and history, and a reexamination of what lies under the surface of ordinary lives and of american life today.
Reviews:
Excellent overview of systemic racism. Should be a "go-to" reference for all who seek to understand global and US racial dynamics.kalp2671
Isabel Wilkerson has nailed it, AGAIN!. This books helps to put many social structures, and their natures in a broader perspective. She peels back layers of values, beliefs, rituals, and memories that have been mis-qualified throughout America's history. She offers the readers an opportunity to "…dig into the precincts of our soul and examine the suburbs of our hearts…(Dr. Cornell West)" to identify oneself in the America we have. She gives alternative views of American history that have held mystery and irrationality. This is a good read for high schoolers and older. Millennials, especially non-black and brown ones, would be served VERY well if they had the insight from this book. Perry, Virginia1gr8sensei
Isabel Wilkerson uses her very readable writing style to attempt to compare Nazi Germany, and India's religious social structure to America's deliberate and destructive "Caste" system, created by white Americans for their benefit. As with so many black authors, the first 160 pages are all about pre-1950 history and slavery, as if this is somehow justification for behavior today of ANY people. Unfortunately, the notion that Blacks in America are oppressed by White people doesn't really make sense. Rather than being discriminated against, American Blacks enjoy special rights, privileges, and advantages that are unavailable to White Americans. These advantages extend into every aspect of Americas public life and can be traced to legislation passed back in the 1960s. A system of racial privileges for blacks was forced on universities, employers, and the population. Less qualified blacks were given preference over more qualified whites in university admissions, employment and promotion. Freezes are used against white admissions, employment, and promotion until racial balance is achieved. Rather than being institutionally oppressed, American Blacks have been accorded a whole array of institutional advantages over Whites. This represents a truly remarkable state of affairs because it stands as the only known instance in history whereby a racial majority in power has voluntarily agreed to relinquish its standing and allow discrimination against themselves in favor of a racial minority in the name of trying to create a more equal and harmonious society – which is a good thing. It is unfortunate that amidst all this opportunity, in the year 2020, some people still feel the need to find fault and complain that their lives are somehow not within their control, all while writing books that are quickly accepted and published, generating hundreds of thousands of dollars in supplemental income for their hard work and dedication.cirrus91
