As 'self help' book go, there are very few I would recommend to others…but this one I would. If someone had explained to me before I read it that this is about meditation, I would never have picked it up, as the whole world of humming and chakras and gurus is not one I subscribe to!! However, if you like to base your thinking on science, then explaining human existence and energy using quantum physics will be something you can work with…and how our brain waves affect our ability to reprogram ourselves is something very powerful. For the first time in my life I have started meditating – without sceptical smirking and all! The book contains the script for 3 stages of meditation to learn…somewhat cumbersome!! They also talk about how the different types relate with each other, and how they can make things work, or why sometimes they don't. Nathaniel Branden coined the phrase 'self-esteem'. This is far from a self help book as we have come to know them. Better to compare it to a workbook, reference, guidebook or program for self guided individuals or therapists. Branden provides the how/what/when/why and all you have to provide is the effort. It truly is positive guidance at it's best and can change lives just from one read.
This is a book on self esteem, a concept which Branden describes as the immune system of our consciousness and mental health. With his interpretation, he couldn't be more correct. It is a comprehensive masterpiece explaining both the what, why and the how of strong self-esteem. Currently my favourite book of all time.
