Rather late to the Heartstopper party but ordered the first 4 book volumes for me and my daughter to read. We both absolutely loved Alice Oseman's touching handling of Charlie and Nick's flourishing relationship – they expertly demonstrate how much can be conveyed through images. Came to these books via the Netflix series and I loved to see how much of the content and images from the first two books are reflected in the Netflix series (such as Charlie on tiptoes to kiss Nick). Have already read books 3 and 4 several times and looking forward to this being interpreted in a sensitive way for the next series. Also can't wait for volume 5 of these books to be published so we can keep enjoying the Heartstopper characters' journeys.Claire F
I want to make people aware that even though this looks like a copic book and meets the lexile range of elementary students, it is not suitable for elementary aged children without the concent of their parents. It talks about topics that some may not find developmentally appropriate. According to the book rating, even though it has words that meet elementary lexile range, the book is recommended for grades 9 and up. I feel by the author using elementary lexile levels but young adult topics, it is only fair to put the caution out to parents who may not wish for their child to be exposed to such topics at a young age.elementaryteacher

Amazing. The artwork was beautiful and it was a nice breath of fresh air compared to the movie.Quentavious
Graphics are exciting, stays pretty true to original storychediego35
Long title I know sorry. Have you seen the movie? Read the novel series? Read this graphic novel? I have done two out three the movie and the graphic novel. They are not the same but the spirit of the character and some of the circumstances are similar. Here is the inside of the jacket to the graphic novel to explain a bit better: 'The first books in the blockbuster best-selling series like you have never seen it before. Mythological monsters and gods of the Mount Olympus seem to be walking out of the pages of twelve year old Percy Jackson's textbooks and into his life. And worse he's angered a few of them. Zeus's master lightning bolt has been stolen and Percy is the Prime suspect. Now he and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus's stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus.' Sounds like serious stuff. I had the good fortune of sharing this with my eleven year old daughter who accompanied me to the movie of the same name. Our thoughts were pretty much the same on both projects. The graphic novel was a very good rendering of the story and added a few new elements to it. Seeing it in a different way told in a different manner kept it fresh for me and intrigued me a bit. The differences raised many questions for me in the manner in which the characters were drawn. Why? Who determined the changes and what was the genesis of them? It seems to me that the trends in today's graphic novels is to pen and ink the characters as closely to the actor as possible to use as an extension of that to build upon that and use it as a synergy to bridge the gap in time between vehicles. In Venditti's graphic novel we have breaks that are nice but I was a bit perplexed as to why he strayed from the story with such large gaps in plotline. Having said that this is a very nice graphic novel. I was happy to have been able to share this and my thoughts of it with my daughter that doesn't get to happen too much anymore. The artwork was nice the dialogue and the feeling it imparted were very good and the overall project works. Hopefully they continue to produce the graphic novels for the series. It is nice to see a character and a series brought forth in all three dimensions: novel graphic novel and movie. What are you reading today? Check us out and become our friend on Shelfari & Linkedin. 5. Meddling Kids: A Novel [Book]
Product Details:
With raucous humor and brilliantly orchestrated mayhem, meddling kids subverts teen detective archetypes like the hardy boys, the famous five, and scooby-doo, and delivers an exuberant and wickedly entertaining celebration of horror, love, friendship, and many-tentacled, interdimensional demon spawn. the summer of 1977. the blyton summer detective club (of blyton hills, a small mining town in oregon's zionx river valley) solved their final mystery and unmasked the elusive sleepy lake monster – another low-life fortune hunter trying to get his dirty hands on the legendary riches hidden in deboën mansion. and he would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for those meddling kids. 1990. the former detectives have grown up and apart, each haunted by disturbing memories of hteir final night in the old haunted house. there are too many strange, half-remembered encounters and events that cannot be dismissed or explained away by a guy in a mask. and andy, the once intrepid tomboy now wanted in two states, is tired of running from her demons. she needs answers. to find them she will need kerri, the one-time kid genius and budding biologist, now drinking her ghosts away in new york with time, an excitable weimaraner descended from the original canine member of the club. they will also have to get nate, the horror nerd currently residing in an asylum in arkham, massachusetts. luckily nate has not lost contact with peter, the handsome jock turned movie star who was once their team leader… which is remarkable considering peter has been dead for years. the time has come to get the team back together, face their fears, and find out what actually happened all those years ago at sleepy lake. it's their only chance to end the nightmares and, perhaps, save the world. a nostalgic and subversive trip rife with sly nods to h. p.

Basically published scooby doo fan fiction for young adults. What could be better?MEGAN
It took me like a year after purchase to get around to reading this. I regret not having done so sooner. It was a really fun story all the way through with characters slightly altered from those we remember from Saturday morning cartoons. There is some harsh language so maybe not for young kids but teens and adults I think would enjoy. It plays out kinda like the mysteries we watched the gang solve way back when but is still set in the early 90s. If you like Scooby Doo, you'll enjoy this book.joe.b
Suggested by a friend, enjoyed by me. The book was a fun summer read that I could share with my teen.jthatch71
6. Big Life Journal: Teen Edition [Book]
Reviews:
Love this for my 7 yr old who has had a hard time with anxiety especially due to the pandemic. It has helped reframe his days in a positive light. As well reminds him that failure is an opportunity for learning a lesson. It takes maybe 3 mins a night to fill it out and he loves to share it with my husband and I.Shannon M.
The Big Life Journal just arrived at our house the other day. Being a perfectionist, my son struggles with accepting ownership of his negative emotions and behaviours; according to him, his emotions and behaviours are everyone else’s fault. Last night he struggled and was quite rude (yay pre-teen). Eventually, I had to remove myself from the situation and just got ready for bed. About 1/2 an hour later my son comes into the room with his Big Life Journal. He showed me the pages he filled out and we had a good conversation about them. He was calmer and apologized for his earlier behaviour. He enjoyed seeing where he had a fixed mindset and where he had a growth mindset. It was super cool to see that he could identify that. It was a good conversation and it was nice to see him feel good about himself and see where he could be more open minded. A great start!! Thank you!!!Maureen
It would always seem like I just had too much going on. I kept trying and implemented questions off and on with my preteen. I have loved this since we started. I did have to rush through. We set the same time once a week and went through the journal weekly and wow it spurred some really good discussions and a deeper understanding. It seemed to help her knowing I went through a lot of the same things, but was very careful not to answer things for her but just prompting and taking time. Time is key. She loves this journal and is now doing the teen version in her own and discusses topics with more ease. Raising a healthy, independent adult is the goal.Jd

Reviews:
Great book collection. I remembered these strips from when they first cam out. I owned every book collection of them and of course got rid of them thinking he would keep writing them. I was very disappointed when he quit writing them but understood. I introduced them to my family members and they fell in love with them. My dog thinks I'm crazy at times because I start laughing when I am reading them and he looks confused. The collection is is the COMPLETE collection of his work and the paperbacks weight a bit since they are so thick. The books are put together nicely and even tell when the strips originally ran, making me feel old thinking about when I was reading them. I highly recommend these books for anyone that was a Calvin and Hobbs fan and let's face the facts, if you read them at all you was a immediate fan.tazmanshadow
Watterson captures so well the precocious, and yet philosophical, imagination of a perpetual child. Laughter will fill this fun read, pass it on when you're done. Bought one for my son, who has 5 & 7 year old boys that put their parents through their paces. Kids love it and adults hold these books dear.rayman51
The soft cover books come in a great case that make is extra-special. The art in the books are vivid and bright. I originally wanted the individual books but having everything in these four books not only keeps is simpler but also allows the books to read like a big story. I love this series and plan on buying another special set to introduce this hilarious and innocent character to my nephews when they're old enough.evelynevevie

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie transcends the barrier of time by addressing a problem that is still relevant today by using the narration of a boy who is so heartbreakingly honest and humorous that it almost hurts to laugh. Arthur is the equivalent, or greater than, of the like of J.D. Salinger's Holden. This novel belongs on every adolescent's no everybody's bookshelf and reading list because it has a message on race and on privilege that this nation still needs to hear and address.lilijay4
Required for 9th grade English class. My daughter doesnt like to read. So, I read it. It was a great book. Ive been trying explain to my daughter that there is nothing good about drinking alcohol and it pretty much indicates the same in this book. This book is exciting and shows how a teenager with lots of family problems and does not have any money can continue to fight through life and still have friends and success. Good book! Last, but not least, I loved the cartoons!!!lisacastleboutique
A very honest, funny and touching novel about a year in the life of a 14 year old Native American boy on the reservation, but with a foot in the larger society. There are wonderful cartoons along with the text. This is not for all tastes: it includes racism, alcoholism, death, and teenage obsession with sex. I found it very interesting and uplifting. The author said that it is "78% true" reflecting what happened in his own life.coati777

Reviews:
I thought this would be helpful for me, as a single mum bringing up a teenage son. A lot of it is good but I found the author's comment that the cause of homosexuality is still unknown, showed a glaring ignorance and at that point I lost interest in any more of her advice.elijahstar171000
