Reviews:
The book went into a lot of stuff that I never knew. The small stills were festinating. I've got the distilling bug now and am going to try my hand at it.Ben
Brought for my dad who is starting out distilling – he loves itSally
A well written, beautifully photographed primer on spirit production and some underlying history supporting why things are they way they are. Not a how-to book but increased my knowledge of production methods, still types, and how these might impact the flavor. Concise.

Reviews:
The only thing not mentioned in any real detail is Gin. All other spirits are covered. Perhaps not the best for recipes but the information is relevant and well covered. Its not a moonshine book but details about everything related to brewing your mash and distilling. The importance of using distilled water in diluting, using a proofing parrot plus vapor temperatures to decide when to make your cuts is spot on.mikehall51
Starts right from the very basics in an easy to understand step by step process. Answers so many questions about how its done and why its done the way it is. Product Details:
This book is a backstage pass into the world of small-scale distilling of whiskies, gins, vodkas, brandies, and more. the reader, the ultimate spirits aficionado, will learn how water and grain are transformed into the full range exquisite, timeless liquors. there are few books available that explore the actual craft of distilling in such detail. most of the other spirits books chronicle the historical side of the distilling world or focus on the flavors of various vintages. our book will be the consummate insider's guide to distilling techniques. bill owens' original photography, the result of two cross-country road trips, offers comprehensive illustration of the microdistilling world.
Reviews:
I felt misled by this book's title. It says, "The Art of Distilling Whiskey and Other Spirits", which implies that there's some nuts and bolts info in here about not just whiskey, but, you know, "spirits"–witch hazel, nut and flavor extracts, essential oils, perfumes, etc. Instead, it was a sort of yearbook or "Who's Who" of artisan distillers and master distillers, which is okay if that's your interest, but definitely more Artisan than Art and definitely not a "guide to distilling." Nuts to Bill Owens and his misnomers.johannak2
This is not a how to book, it is informational only, nice coffee table book but no other real use. If you are looking to make moonshine, do not buy this.electricdog911

11. Craft Of Whiskey Distilling [Book]
Product Details:
This manual is intended for the craft whiskey distiller who aims to make excellent-quality malt whiskey through artisan distillation methods. this manual describes, at the craft level, the process of making whiskey. it gives detailed instructions on how to distill one barrel (53 gallons) of 120-proof malt whiskey. the reader learns about the principles of distillation, types of stills, and the process of distillation. the manual also goes into detail about how-to make head and tails cuts-the elusive operation that a distiller needs to learn in order to create a world class whiskey. most important is the chapter on mashing and creating a barley wash for fermentation. the all-grain recipes in the manual are adapted from the mashing (brewing) process used by commercial malt whiskey distilleries. finally, the wash will be distilled using the double-distillation method employed by most of the renowned malt-whiskey producers.
12. Short History Of The Art Of Distillation [Book]
Product Details:
Distillation is an art. and even an ancient one. it is strange to find that the history of this oldest and still most important method of producing chemically pure substances has ever been written. the reader looking at the bibliography appended to this book might object that many data existed. this may be true but the proper history of the art from the origin up to the present time was lacking.

A new generation of urban bootleggers is distilling whiskey at home, and cocktail enthusiasts have embraced the nuances of brown liquors. written by the founders of kings county distillery, new york city's first distillery since prohibition, this spirited illustrated book explores america's age-old love affair with whiskey. it begins with chapters on whiskey's history and culture from 1640 to today, when the diy trend and the classic cocktail craze have conspired to make it the next big thing. for those thirsty for practical information, the book next provides a detailed, easy-to-follow guide to safe home distilling, complete with a list of supplies, step-by-step instructions, and helpful pictures, anecdotes, and tips. the final section focuses on the contemporary whiskey scene, featuring a list of microdistillers, cocktail and food recipes from the country's hottest mixologists and chefs, and an opinionated guide to building your own whiskey collection. praise forthe kings county distillery guide to urban moonshining: the moonshining world is notoriously full of orally-perpetuated misinformation and the legitimate whiskey industry is full of marketing lies and half-truths; spoelman and haskell have thankfully defied those traditions and released an educational book of honesty and transparency.” serious eats

This book is that rare thing – a book that actually does what it's title tells you. It is a great and entertaining read as well as an incredibly practical guide to making your own distilled alcohol without going blind or accidentally killing friends and family members.Mick the Moonshiner
Good read easy to read well written, very full of info123srader
This book goes into some of the moonshine history of the author and America in general, but it does cover alot about actually creating moonshine. Becareful that is illegal unless you have paid the taxes and have a permit.jjvtho

Reviews:
This is a really beautiful book. I bought it for a friend who adores whiskey and likes trying new ones. When this says 'world' it means world, there are whiskeys from everywhere. Who knew! The colour plates are fabulous and it's beautifully laid out. I didn't read much at all as it was a gift and I didn't want to mark it, but my friend said she loves it and others at her dinner party thought it was quite stunning. It's a very classy book for all whiskey lovers!blue7sirian
