Reviews:
Being 40 with lots of work and home commitments this book allows me to change the way I organise myself. Simple things that no one really tell you but should be obligatory at school level to ease your grownup lifethomas.j.p
TLDR: Our brain is not made for dealing with multiple complex projects or for keeping track of meetings, deadlines, to-do and shopping lists etc. To not get stressed or overwhelmed by modern life, you need to set up an "external brain": a system you can trust to keep all this info AND remind you of it when YOU need it to. The book helps you create such a system. David's system lets you capture the dozens or hundreds of small and large to-dos going on in your life, decide what to do with them, review it from time to time and act based on them so that you can trust yourself that any moment you are doing what you should be doing (and not feel anxious about what you're NOT doing). It's the kind of book one re-reads every few years to get more and more out of it. While he says the whole system takes a couple of years to became habitual in your life, you can get a lot of mileage from doing small bits of it right away. Frankly, I'm somewhat pissed it's not taught in school or that no one before had told me about it (it first came out around the turn of the century). Anyway, but it, read at least the first two chapters and start making it into a life habit as you read the rest of it.pstefanics
This is a very informative book in helping you sort out your time management and cleaning your mental mind. The updated version has a lot of new methods of managing tasks such as doing it online, new programs and tasks on computers etc which might be useful to an older audience, but as a millennial brought up in the internet age, it was not very useful to re-read things we were raised to use. I found around 15% of the information in this book useful, but 85% of it was repetitive and general information that (I assume) people already know. The bottom-line: Wouldn't hurt to read if you wish to further educate yourself on task management, but a lot of the things stated in this book can be found online.Jono

The book lifehack calls "the bible of business and personal productivity."" a completely revised and updated edition of the blockbuster bestseller from 'the personal productivity guru'"—fast companysince it was first published almost fifteen years ago, david allen’s getting things done has become one of the most influential business books of its era, and the ultimate book on personal organization. “gtd” is now shorthand for an entire way of approaching professional and personal tasks, and has spawned an entire culture of websites, organizational tools, seminars, and offshoots. allen has rewritten the book from start to finish, tweaking his classic text with important perspectives on the new workplace, and adding material that will make the book fresh and relevant for years to come. this new edition of getting things done will be welcomed not only by its hundreds of thousands of existing fans but also by a whole new generation eager to adopt its proven principles.
Reviews:
Words like "groundbreaking," "landmark," and "revolutionary" don't normally apply to self-help books, but of all the books that could be classified as self-help manuals, this is one of the three I would recommend to nearly anyone. Here David Allen lays out a complete, concise schematic of a productivity system that puts everything in the right place. Any of the principles in GTD will work to some degree in isolation, but what this book does is organize them into a wholistic system for what Allen calls "self-management." Do you have a dozen things on your mind, like "get cat food" or "talk to Bob about the mail room situation," that you need to do but can't do at the moment? GTD (the popular acronym for "Getting Things Done") provides a guide for how to get all those to-do items out of your conscious and into a place where you'll still have them when you need them. Allen has said of his book that it requires several reads to fully understand, but understanding it is worth all the trouble and more. The reward is organization coupled with flexibility, as well as the ability to maintain them over time.liamandjessie
David understands why keeping it in your head doesn't work to get things done. Think of an all-day seminar in one book. His first book changed how I looked at my work. And I've customized his approach to fit my work and home life. Plus, it's an ongoing process, it's not rigid, it's flexible.mannlm13
Ordered 3 of these and will order one more later for myself. Giving these as gifts for Christmas for my 3 adult children. All three came in fine shape. Love saving the money!beadzbyjennifer

For years I felt my organizational habits and routines were a mild case of obsessive compulsive behavior. Although the same habits directly contributed to my profe success, I tried to hide them. This book explains clearly how important those habits and routines are in all areas. I am very glad I read it. Highly recommend!cidinv
I mainly give this book 4 stars because of how it engaged me in the tales of certain companies and studies. I feel it falls a little short in giving detailed advice to change habits.PATRICK
This was a great book, hard to put down. It explains how we do so much of what we do. I even bought another copy to give my son. It wasn't my intention when I started reading, but now I am using the ideas to work on not being so much of a workaholic.gunny-sloan

Reviews:
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up is intended to be read before this one. This book is merely the how-to-guide, which won't be very effective without understanding Marie Kondo's principles and method from the first book. I am so committed to her method I'm even folding the clothes with the KonMari method. Totally worth it if you want to put your life in order, feel comfortable in your home and know yourself a little better. This doesn't make a good gift, unless they've read the first book and you know they want it.E is for Elf
Ive really enjoyed reading Spark Joy and enjoyed the size and hard cover. While I havent begun my tidying up yet, I have a resource to return to which expands on the concepts raised in Marie Kondo's previous book The Life Changing Magic Of Tidying Up.Wendy B.
Great companion to The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, also by Marie Kondo. Goes into more detail about determining if something sparks joy; storage; and is complete with illustrations on folding, etc.mamor_983119
13. Smarter Faster Better: The Transformative Power Of Real Productivity [Book]
Product Details:
New york times bestseller – from the author of the power of habit comes a fascinating book that explores the science of productivity, and why managing how you think is more important than what you think–with an appendix of real-world lessons to apply to your life. at the core of smarter faster better are eight key productivity concepts–from motivation and goal setting to focus and decision making–that explain why some people and companies get so much done. drawing on the latest findings in neuroscience, psychology, and behavioral economics–as well as the experiences of ceos, educational reformers, four-star generals, fbi agents, airplane pilots, and broadway songwriters–this painstakingly researched book explains that the most productive people, companies, and organizations don't merely act differently. they view the world, and their choices, in profoundly different ways. a young woman drops out of a phd program and starts playing poker. by training herself to envision contradictory futures, she learns to anticipate her opponents' missteps–and becomes one of the most successful players in the world. a group of data scientists at google embark on a four-year study of how the best teams function, and find that how a group interacts is more important than who is in the group–a principle, it turns out, that also helps explain why saturday night live became a hit. a marine corps general, faced with low morale among recruits, reimagines boot camp–and discovers that instilling a "bias toward action" can turn even the most directionless teenagers into self-motivating achievers. the filmmakers behind disney's frozen are nearly out of time and on the brink of catastrophe–until they shake up their team in just the right way, spurring a creative breakthrough that leads to one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. what do these people have in common? they know that productivity relies on making certain choices.

A fresh, personal, and entertaining exploration of a topic that concerns all of us how to be more productive at work and in every facet of our lives. chris bailey turned down lucrative job offers to pursue a lifelong dream to spend a year performing a deep dive experiment into the pursuit of productivity, a subject he had been enamored with since he was a teenager. after obtaining his business degree, he created a blog to chronicle a year-long series of productivity experiments he conducted on himself, where he also continued his research and interviews with some of the world's foremost experts, from charles duhigg to david allen.
Reviews:
Highly recommend! I haven't yet finished reading, hence I am reluctant to give it a 5 stars. I have been following Chris' blog for a few years now and thus was thrilled to receive his book. I will admit that the challenges for each chapter were a bit annoying – although they're excellent in practice – one of the first ones related to tracking your productivity by the hour, as well as energy, for a few weeks. It's something I'm currently doing but I felt like I wasn't able to move on to the other challenges in the book without doing this first. Otherwise, Chris delivers a lighthearted and engaging read. Everything is backed by an anecdotal experiment, science or a humorous comment. It keeps the reader interested, without being overwhelmed by the need to "get up and change your life, NOW!"Cyrup

I'm not quite finished with it but I have really enjoyed reading AND implementing the suggestions, tips and procedures in this book. My particular problem has always been time management and Ms. Winston goes into that as well as just about every aspect of organizing your home, office and time that you could want. This book was recommended in another book that I love (The Organizing Sourcebook by Kathy Waddill) and I'm really glad I went ahead and got it. There are a few sections that really didn't apply to me like children (my only is a teen), an office away from home, or money. I've never been disorganized in my finances. But the parts that did apply to me were well worth buying this book.barbie174
I had looked at this book at a local store for some time and decided this is what I really needed to read. I took time to find a great deal on EBAY and saved alot of money. I have not gotten to far into it but the parts I had read at the bookstore have been very helpful . I am looking forward to alot of good changes in my life and house with the help of this book.erose913
