Reviews:
Wow! Pirates have green teeth. They never go to bed early or read a story, or do anything that is right and proper! A superb read for pre schoolers, who always enjoy stories about people who are 'naughtier' than themselves. (In a nice sort of way!) The little fellow in the story imagines/dreams an adventure with pirates and finds out that maybe a pirate's life isn't so grand at all… he really misses a bed time story and being tucked in! The illustrations are wild. Colourful, exaggerated and vivid. Definitely a males' eye- view and imagery of a Pirate's life me Hearties!
I purchased this book for my nephew's son whom loves pirates for his birthday. He is going to be 4 years old and just started preschool. The vivid illustrations alone would hold is attention. To be honest, I didn't read all the book. Mom and dad express to me that he is going to be happy with this choice. I love hard covered books.Claire
My 3 1/2 year old son LOVES pirates! This book portrays them a little rough, but not MEAN. I love the message that pirates are great, but they don´t do all the things that Mommy does (tuck you in, read a story, etc.). There are beautiful illustrations on every page!SraDelaTorre

I purchased this book for a four year (girl) who is very interested in pirates and what life was like for pirates ("Why didn't they take baths? What did they eat? Why did they want gold?"). While it is aimed at older children, the history of pirates can be very accessible to younger children with a lot of adult explanation. The book has a wonderful table of contents with pictures that correspond to the subject of each "chapter." This allows my daughter to choose which subject she wants to read about. We only make it few a few pages each time we read. The book has the benefit of teaching younger children the idea that things were different in the past (the concept of historical change.)gorditer

17. The Sea Rover's Practice: Pirate Tactics And Techniques, 1630-1730 [Book]
Product Details:
To read of sea roving's various incarnations – piracy, privateering, buccaneering, la flibuste, la course – is to bring forth romantic, and often violent, imagery. indeed, much of this imagery has become a literary and cinematic clich?. and what an image it is! but its truth is by halves, and paradoxically it is the picaresque imagery of pyle, wyeth, sabatini, and hollywood that is often closer to the reality, while the historical details of arms, tactics, and language are often inaccurate or entirely anachronistic. successful sea rovers were careful practitioners of a complex profession that sought wealth by stratagem and force of arms. successful sea rovers were often supreme seamen, soldiers, and above all, tacticians. it can be argued that their influence on certain naval tactics is felt even today. the sea rover's practice is the only book that describes in exceptional detail the tactics of sea rovers of the period – how they actually sought out and attacked vessels and towns.

The Sea Rover's Practice is a welcome addition to anyone interested in pirates and the Golden Age of Piracy. The book looks at the tactics and tools used by the pirates and privateers in pursuing their trade and each chapter walks you through step by step in the process for conducting a raid on land or seizing a ship by sea. Mr. Little's experience as a U.S. Navy Seal provides a unique perspective on the use of stealth and tactics that were applied by the pirates and that still apply in our modern times. The book is easy to read and very entertaining. I highly recommend it!greyhawke7
